Project idea

2010-02-10 00:33
Project development:

·      research “ Levels of inclusion and exclusion”

-         project teams will come up with ideas reflecting the difficulties that students and young people in general can face when trying to get integrated in a group, class, community. Each project team will make up multiple choice questions, so that in the end it results a questionnaire that could generally be applied to students. Questions could reflect difficulties/ differences related to social background, ethnical and racial belonging, personality, etc.

-         realisation of the final questionnaire:

-         application of the questionnaire: 10 students at each level ( 9th grade, 10th grade, etc)

-         results represented in a chart ( for each team separately)

-         essay based on the results, written by students ( for each team separately)

-         on-line test based on the essay.

·      interviews with specialists:

-         students will search and present different organizations that help people who might have difficulties with their integration in society. (e.g. Red Cross, orphanages, Caritas, etc)

Suggestion: We could set a number of organizations that we want to introduce, each team should be responsible of certain ones. We can decide with our teams whether we will realize the presentations under the form of interviews, or written presentations.

-         quiz game about the organizations

-         testimonials from members of these organizations

·      first steps:

-         activities organized in collaboration with the Langdon Down Association (Special Olympics), mutual visits, sports contests, etc, where our students have participated and came into contact with disabled people.

Inclusion

When a person wants to be included in normal life, sports club etc. the person has to be very capable and has to work very hard especially if the person is ill, if he or she is not accepted in community etc. The main task is to educate peopla that some sicknesses have no cure but people who have that problem are still normal, homeless people still have equal rights like every other person. People often consider themselves better than the others an that is the biggest problem. It makes less fortunate people feel less valuable and they can easilly get depressed. This surelly does not help them. We sholud support them and make their allready very difficult lives at least barable.

Hygiene

In our town (and I´m sure that elsewhere too) is a problem, that homeless people wash themselves in public toilets and due to that many of the public toilets have closed (or can use oly when asking the key of the toilet). But I can say that actually it shows clearly that there should be more places, where homeless people could clean up themselves, because many of them realy want to keep more hygiene.

homeless

I once saw a TV show on Discovery channel where some people from some african tribe went to U.K. to explore. They had some hoasts looking for them and showing them the place and one of the african guys asked why is that man sleaping on the streat? ( he was refering to a homeless) and the host said he dosent have a house or he probabli lost it. At the end of the show the africans were asked about opinions what do they think? the answer was ,,U.K. is nice it has all this big houses and all the pluming in them. But we didnt like that while people sleep on the street no one cares, i saw people that care more about theyr dog than those poor souls. Back in our tribe if one of us dosent have a house the whole village hellps him build one.

I think part of the solution is that peoples build houses or complexs that can take in homless peoples until they can find a job>get a house>move out from the complex>making room for a nother homeless>find a job > and so on.
I think the biggest problem is that even if homless people would like to work no one will give them a job just because how they look. Having a place where they can take a shower and having clean clothes will help them a lot.

Homeless people

I like the idea Johanna gave about homeless people getting professional counseling and help. I would like to add, that there should be institutions, where professional counslers work. Their help and counceling should be easily accsessed and since we're dealing with homeless people, the counceling should be free. And if there is an institution created, then why not develope it to an institution where homeless peole can get free lunch at the spot. But maby only if they have been to a councler. I think this may motivate them to also find solutions and not to accept the way they are living at the moment. I think that one of the problems is that homeless people have already given up. They have found a way to deal with their situations an they are not thinking about ways to improve their life anymore. They have lost faith to themselves too and there should be a way to get them thinking and believeing in themselves again.

homeless people

I think that very important in solving the issue of homelessness is that homeless people shouldn`t stay alone with their worries. 1) Homeless people who want to find the way out of their situation should get professional counseling and help. Then they were aware of all af their opportunities and they could, with using that advice, get their lives back on track. 2) Homeless people should have the support persons with whom they could share their gladnesses and worries.

Ending homelessness

The “Ending Homelessness is possible” campaign is a call to action for the development of integrated housing exclusion and homelessness strategies, the goals are:

* No one sleeping rough
* No one living in emergency accommodation longer than is an ‘emergency’
* No one living in transitional accommodation longer than is required for successful move-on
* No one leaving an institution without housing options
* No young people becoming homeless as a result of the transition to independent living
